Carpenter Star and Feathers

This quilt was a long time coming!  I finished the top a few years ago.  I loved the muted colors of brown, green, and gold. 

 

 

Used a Carpenter Star pattern and loved how easily it came together.

 

Finally got it quilted in November and bound last month. 

 

Used Deb's Feathers to quilt it - I didn't think I was a dense feather kind of girl - guess what...I am.  This is one of my favorite quilts I've EVER quilted! 

 

And the back is almost as great as the front.  It was a very bright day out so pictures aren't great - come over and I'll show you this one in person.  Its a keeper!

Mama Said Sew Jelly Roll Race Quilt

I've got another finish!  One night I decided I need to sew something.  And I didn't want to sit down and sew - I wanted to sit down and finish something! 

 

I've been loving this line Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater and have a lot of it laying around.  So I searched the internet and found this tutorial for the Jelly Roll Race from Missouri Star Quilting. 

 

 

They aren't joking when she says it is fast! I got this quilt done in about 2 - 2 1/2 hours!  I wanted to make it a little larger, so I added some borders. 

 

Black borders sandwiched a zig zag print and then added the black gingham binding!  The back was the print with all the words and printed quilt blocks!  I love this quilt and this will be used in our house. 

 

I used the hatch longarm pattern to quilt it up. 

 

So glad to have another finish done!!!  If you need a quick and easy quilt this pattern is your new best friend.

A Little Update in Pictures

Summer is in full swing around these parts and we couldn't be happier.  I wish I had a job that gave me summers off, cause I sure wish I could stay home with these two jokers most days and play.

Between, swimming, BBQing, yard work, get togethers, tball, golf, lagoon, and work - we have a busy few months ahead of us!

So far this summer - we have have put our Lagoon passes to good use.  

Rode a few roller coasters

And the dinosaur egg drop may be the family favorite.

I have done a little quilting for myself and getting my house ready for summer which screams patriotic themes to me!

 I've been doing a lot of quilting!  This flag quilt I wanted to keep - and this chevron with the circles killed me!

I even got to the shop hop last week!

Jake started t-ball and I'm loving it!

I mean come on...aren't these 2 the cutest looking ball players around? 

We've golfed a little - both regular and mini.  

And spent a few weekends in the pool.  

Summer is in full swing around here and we are loving it!

Another Finish

I've decided I'm HORRIBLE at naming quilts - I have not idea what to name them.  I'm not creative at all in this department.

I have absolutely zero memory of sewing these blocks together.  No idea if it was 2 years ago or 5 years ago.  I vaguely remember cutting out the little border of 4 inch blocks that should be surround this quilt - but opted not to add them here.  

I've had this quilt top hanging in the close waiting to be quilted for a few years now.  I wanted to give Jake's teachers a nice "thank you" gift for such a great year.  I decided on a quilt about 2 days before his last day....yea I'm a procrastinator.  So I pulled this one out, added a border and quilted it up.  I think it turned out nicely.

I used the Surf pattern which is quickly becoming a favorite of mine!  I have no idea what line this is.  Maybe something by Anna Griffin?  But that's a total guess.  

Backing was a light pink on pink floral which I used for the border and binding also.

This is a Lakehouse pattern and is a great one.  Perfect size for a baby quilt or throw.  

I was glad to get this one completed and Jake was so excited to give it to his teacher.  Always fun to do something different and special for someone.  Especially when they have loved and cared for my kid!

Benji Blanket Quilts

Been busy quilting this last month and I have a few to share.

My sister Whit came up with the Benji blanket idea about 5 years ago when Marta had her first.  The idea was a thin blanket that a baby could be swaddled in.  Sometimes quilts are just too heavy and hot for those little ones.  She wanted minky on one side and a cute fabric on the other.  We quilt them up - sans batting and bind them.  Soft and cuddly, yet thin and cool.  The perfect weight for car seats and strollers.  This is Whitney's go to baby gift and has gotten great reviews!  We lovingly refer to these types of quilts as the Benji Blanket as that is where it all started. 

 

I'll admit I don't always love how these look initially.  Without the batting, the fabric doesn't always lay flat and you can sometimes see "puffs" from the minky.  Once its been washed up, I usually get over this, but it was hard for a quilter like me to get use to! 

 

This one below Whit wanted for Wren's 1st birthday.  Recently I stumbled upon some chevron minky which is quickly becoming a favorite.  Whit picked out all these fabrics and I LOVE how it turned out!  The fabric front and binding are from Happy Go Lucky by Camille and Bonnie for Moda.  I love how the orange pops!  Such a fun quilt. 

 

 This next quilt was a request from Marta for a shower gift.  This baby's gender is yet to be known - so we tried to go neutral - yet keeping with the feel of the couple.  The bikes on the back with grey dot minky was perfect for them.  We picked a orange plaid for the binding to help break up some of the blue, just in case. 

Love this bike fabric! Bike fabric and binding is from Lucy's Crab Shack by Sweetwater for Moda. 

 

This next quilt may just be my most favorite Benji Blanket ever!  I used the bikes/wagon print seen on this quilt - So really how could we go wrong?

I've never met a combo that marries together so well.  I.LOVE.HOW.THIS.TURNED.OUT.

It was a special quilt as it goes to Marta's Baby Seth how has waited almost a year for his own Benji quilt!  I'm hoping it was worth the wait!

Baby Davis Quilt

I saw this quilt a few months ago and fell in love.  I love the hounds tooth, the bold print on the back.  I thought what a perfect and classy baby quilt.  Not to babyish, stylish, still easy to throw together. 

 

So when my cousin Kerry found out she was having a boy - I knew this would fit her and her personality perfectly. 

 

I used navy solid and snow kona on the front.

 

Found this awesome Michael Miller/Sarah Jane bike/wagon print for the back.

A little channel lock quilting (don't look too close) and it was good to go.  I used the Riley Blake navy gingham for the binding.  Love how this turned out and just in time.  Finished the binding the night before the little guy was born! 

This pattern will be a repeat for sure!

Traditional Patchwork Finish

Another finish!  

This quilt was a kit I bought a few years ago at shop hop.  It came in reds and browns and a blue/brown version.  I made the blue/brown version for my dad a year or two ago for Father's Day.  I started this quilt when I was pregnant with Sam on one of our trips to Vegas.  (BTW Vegas is not the same when taking children - just an FYI for anyone considering it)

I had an inch to get a project completed one night - so I pulled this out.  Had 4 rows done and needed to add a few more.  I was really excited to try out this longarm quilt pattern.  I got the quilt sewn, on the machine and quilted within a day.  I love how it turned out.  

Used a flannel/brushed cotton for the back so this quilt is so soft and ready to be snuggled into!

Menu Monday

It was a busy weekend and I'm so ready for summer!  Got all our planting done, backyard cleaned up, patio furniture washed and cleaned up.  Pool is open and the weather is perfect!  So excited for grilling season to be here.  I always feel like I eat a little better when I throw something on the grill and pair it with fruit or a salad.  Easy, no clean up, and the boys think its fun to eat outside!
